Fox has had a series of significant super-hero hits of their own lately with the last two (or three, depending on who you ask) X-Men universe films with more to come. So why wouldn’t you be excited for this new take on The Fantastic Four starring Miles Teller, Michael B Jordan, Kate Mara and Jamie Bell? Well…I don’t have enough text space here to tell you all the reasons not to be excited about it so you’ll just have to listen to the review with JC, Chris, Ashley, Beau, Elliott and Joe.

Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free, by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal”, turned into a full time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site Spill.com, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you.

    • dark knight fan

      Yeah like in 30 years!

      • TheOtherDude92

Holy Shit, Holy Shit! This review is going to be awesome.

    • jcdeleon1

Hope we delivered. It was one of the more fun ones I’ve been on at least.

      • dark knight fan

        You guys were ‘fantastic’.

  • Doom is sad…

  • dark knight fan

I didn’t like the 1st movie. I like the 2nd movie just because Chris Evans, but yeah it’s bad now. Good thing they wasn’t a 3rd movie, because we wouldn’t have Chris Evans as Captain America, who is my favorite MCU hero.

  • Austin/Chubblicious

The severe hatred for this movie by every critic makes me want to see it because I love a good train wreck. But I will probably wait till redbox since I don’t want to give this crap any money.

    • dark knight fan

You are not the only one!

    • Jean-François Martel

this is kind of how i feel too.

  • Mr Smart

The backlash and outright hatred of this quite excellent movie experience boils down to racism, quite obviously. Privileged white men of course are going to hate the idea of a black super hero, it fundamentally goes against their bigoted view of the world. In the eyes of white men, POC are animals, sub-humans and incapable of being heroic.

    • Beau

Dude, seriously. Go obvious troll somewhere else. Or get banned.

      • Chris Cox

        What Beau said.

    • Jonathan Snyder

      lol. Are you cereal?

    • Elliott Fontenette

Hmm, didn’t know I was white. Whatever dude.

    • Brian_Salisbury

AND upvoting your own comment, you are a sad sad little troll.

  • dark knight fan

So the people who made this, use that plan from The Producers. Making a bad movie to get more money, than making a good movie .

  • dark knight fan

That ‘you should say yes’ scene was in a trailer, that’s when people should’ve know this was going be bad.

  • Neil Kelly

I guess it was too much to ask for a Fantastic Four movie that was in some way competent…

  • Batj()y

Jamie Bell is great in “Turn” Washington’s Spies. Hoped this would be good. Is it really that hard to make a good FF?

  • james ozzy

I do do not like is when they go Wooo! In trailer and movies. Spiderman had and it should have stopped with Spiderman.

  • james ozzy

    Why Josh Trank Wwwwhhhhhhhhyyyyyyyy!!!

New rule never ,ever, give a one time director a gig that requires big budget. Eventhough FF could never be saved,as a movie.

Fantastic Four should be a consultant group for super heros! Not actual Super heros.

    • Scott Johnson

Marvel did succeed with lots of their oddball choices and Colin Treverow started with Safety Not Guaranteed and then received Jurassic World. But fuck, this was such a studio-guided mess and I almost feel bad for Trank even with his reputation.

  • Brian_Salisbury

Pro tip: Accusing literally every movie site of racism because they didn’t like a movie is almost as bad as bragging about being a “champion vegan bodybuilder” on other comment threads.

We suffer no trolls nor douches at OOU! The rest of you are cool, continue being so.

    • Tristan Milner

      Swing it like Thor!

  • Preston

So this movie is getting crushed… Is it fair to assume that perhaps FF isn’t silver screen material? I don’t think so. FF should absolutely be successful, no excuses. We now have three movies and three lackluster duds–what the hell is up? This is a great property that is being treated like dog shit. Fox needs to rent the rights to Doom so this epic villain can get the big screen respect he deserves.

  • Jean-François Martel

seriously, though, in the future if your find it in yourselves to watch this again you should totally do a commentary

  • Andre Garcia

Looks like this movie deserves an apology.

    • jcdeleon1

      Never!!!!!!!!! 😛

      • Andre Garcia

At least Pixels had more action than this did.

        • dark knight fan

And it was a movie, everybody knew was bad before it come out.

    • Chris Cox

As I said, Pixels is still worse.

      • Andre Garcia

Again I say, it wasn’t good but I wasn’t mad. Relax, we got Straight Outta Compton coming up.

  • Charles Armstrong

I don’t even have the same level of vitriol you guys have for it. It’s just so bland and forgettable. Like, nothing in this movie stands out. Not one moment did I ever get interested or have fun. Such a waste.

  • Austin/Chubblicious
  • Ken Walker

Something I haven’t heard much about is that most of this movie is drawing inspiration from The Ultimates storyline, where Reed becomes the main villain. Also this run was written by Mark Millar, who is part of Fox’s comic brains trust. This movie started as too many chefs liking their own cooking, and now is turning into people pouting because everyone else has been telling them they suck.
    Really great review team!!!

  • Sam

I don’t mean to go off topic, but I’m sorry…..J.C. is just a human speed bump when it comes to these reviews…at least for me. Every time he opens his mouth the whole train just skids on the emergency brakes until he’s done talking. It’s nothing personal, it’s just that after listening to him for the last 30 or 40 reviews I’ve noticed the majority of what he says is just a direct echo of a point someone else just made without elaborating or expounding or adding anything to the discussion…and he rarely gives anyone any jumping off points to make jokes from. So that’s me just venting…constructive criticism.

  • dark knight fan

Guys this is No.2 with $26.2M.

  • memories & myths

How did the 03 Hulk not respect the source material?
Taking Si-Fi as serious concepts instead of campy jokes does not equal disrespecting the source material (it does in F4’s case because they did it BADLY), there are shit tons of dead serious Hulk stories.

  • ininja2

    Goddamn, Ashley’s hilarious.
