Looking forward to that end of January 2015 release date. Why do you hate us Disney?

    • Darkman220

You have it coming for getting the Marvel movie first

  • disqus_DJPdXdTm7A

God you guys sound pretty down.

  • Eric Kirby

Elliot you are so wrong about Damon Wayans he was funny on In Living color and his stand up shows are great. Yeah I agree his son is awesome, but don’t talk shit about his dad. Back in the day for his time he was great. Now his Uncle’s I agree with you about them.

  • Maciek

Honey Lemon is just Rapunzel from “Tangled” is glasses…

  • scipio22

His father?! Really?!! Damon Wayans is/was hilarious! His uncles were ok in the Scary Movies

  • Ryan Naughton

Monsters vs. Aliens being the gold standard of children’s entertainment? Really? I mean I really like that movie, but there are better children’s films out there. Unless Michael secretly has my fetish.

    • Chris Cox

With all due respect to Michael, the rest of us decidedly do not share that sentiment.

      • Andre Garcia

Chris, I’m not gonna lie, I actually knew who the villain was this whole time when I first went to see it.

  • IrishSpartan

Um, you guys do know this is Walt Disney Animation Studios not Pixar right? Because you kept on mentioning that (paraphrasing) “its Pixar and shame on Pixar this film should be better like other Pixar films.” This film is from the same Studio that did Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and Frozen. Not Pixar, so temper your expectations.

    • Chris Cox

They ARE the same studio, now. Both run by the same guy. Only real difference is a logo.

      • IrishSpartan

Oh they are the same studio……..So let me get this straight: same President and CCO, but different general managers, different headquarters, different animation studios, and different staffs (both in number and in composition) means they are the same? Ok…….oh and lets not forget the different logos too.

        • Chris Cox

Everything I’ve read says that Lassiter keeps a heavy hand on the control of both studios. And since he changed positions, the stuff being released under the regular Disney banner has indeed come to resemble the Pixar stuff to a much greater degree. I’d go so far as to say the Disney stuff has improved significantly while the Pixar stuff of late looks more like he’s let someone else not as good as he is spend too much time as the wheel. And you speak as if something was wrong with those 3 films, when every single one of them knocked it out of the park.

          • Chris Cox

I mean, for my money, Lassiter IS Pixar. If Miyazaki did a feature for another studio, I’d still feel like calling it Ghibli.

          • Chris Cox

I should say that, while of course you are technically correct in your definitions, the point I’ve been trying to make is that I see little to no difference anymore because of the man at the top of both. Sorry that that seems to offend you.

          • IrishSpartan

Not offended at all. Personally, the feel of Pixar films is very different to that of Walt Disney Animation Studios, thats just how I see it. Especially considering Pixar has kind of been spinning its wheels with sequels (Toy Story 3, Cars 2, Monsters University, they also just announced a Toy Story 4 too) while Walt Disney Animation Studios have been trying different things.

          • IrishSpartan

I would agree with this sentiment. Also, don’t forget about the President of both Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, Edwin Catmull, as he was a co-founder of Pixar along with Steve Jobs.

          • IrishSpartan

I loved Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, and Frozen. I merely mentioned tempering the expectation because most critics that I read like to compare the two studios and the Disney Animation Studios tend to, in my belief unjustly, get the short shaft simply because they are not Pixar.

  • Guest

    This isn’t Pixar!!!!

I do want to say, jumping on with the review, is that Big Hero 6 is a really good movie. But it does feel a lot like a movie made by committee because it has very familiar beats in the beginning. The movie however is really saved by Baymax by being such an incredible, endearing, and loveable character. He’s going to be a mascot. If anyone was kind of surprising, it was TJ Miller’s character being very likable and how he got into the story in his own meta way.

The same applies to the short before the movie, Feast. It’s delightful and pretty and adorable, but doesn’t have much plot and is kind of sudden. But enjoy the movie. I’d love to hear anyone talk about if they saw the movie in 3D, because I bet the movie looked pretty nice with the action-packed scenes and pretty background.

  • rickdidaz

Liked the movie but wasn’t amazed by it. 7/10 for me.

  • Santos

I have to second Chris using “The Last Boy Scout” as a means to defend the talent of Damon Wayans Sr. He has some moments in that movie that show that he had the potential to make the transition from silly comedic actor to respected dramatic actor. Unfortunately, things didn’t work out.
