World of UScast: The British Bodcast: Episode X

3 Submitted by on Thu, 02 October 2014, 12:01

This episode Dan is a little under the weather following a Stag Do at the weekend. As a result, Dan and Kia talk about the whole Stag/Hen Do thing and how it might differ from their US equivalents.

This led nicely into a discussion about how hard Duke and Kia are finding it to book their ideal venue and how they have plans for a quirky wedding!

Moving away from all things weddings, the couple discuss the new comics in their lives, how most of them are from Image and finally a quick round up of their Fantasy Football league.

Don’t forget to check out Kia’s cosplay page at and swing by for a British slant on all the latest news from the world of geekdom.

Born in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free, by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal”, turned into a full time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. They built the site, adding multiple podcasts and animated features, to no small amount of success. During this time, a fortuitous friendship sprung up between Chris and young Brian Salisbury, who was also a local film critic, and they merged their forces of will, and their laundry list of ideas for shows, to eventually build this paradise you see before you.

Hey guys, fun show as usual. Have you guys seen the Channel 4 series Utopia? It’s really great. It’s full of sci-fi comic book conspiracy thriller goodness. I keep recommending it to people, since for whatever reason no-one’s really heard of it. It has Nathan Stewart-Jarret in it from Misfits, if you’re a fan of that series (I never watched it, myself). Also, David Fincher is working on adapting the series, or some episodes of it at least, for HBO over in the States. I think I read something somewhere of there being a comic book adaptation of the series too, but everything in the series, including the comic it all revolves around, is all original.

    • It has been highly recommended to us and one of our contributors has written reviews for it (which you can find the start of here: He then reviews series 2 for us as well.

I (Duke), did personally enjoy Misfits until the original cast all buggered off. Only Rudi was interesting and capable of acting. I would be curious to see a HBO adaption of Utopia but I always get worried about when the US adapts UK shows.

Thanks for listening and spread the word! 🙂

Oh cool, I hadn’t seen that on Need to Consume. I watched it on Netflix, so I think I’ll catch season 2 of it on there when Netflix gets it. I also would be cautious about an American adaptation of the show, but HBO, from my understanding, generally put out some of the best-reviewed series’ on American TV, so maybe that network could deliver something better than people would typically expect from an American remake of a British show.
